Yes — that's exactly what consignment is. MV Consignment sells your car on behalf of you: we detail, photograph, list, and market the vehicle, handle every viewing and negotiation, and settle the sale, then pay you once it's sold. You keep ownership until it sells, and never have to deal with a buyer directly.
Most vehicles sell in 1–6 weeks, depending on the vehicle, price, and market demand — though we've had vehicles sell in a matter of hours.
We stay in touch, reassess pricing and strategy honestly, and keep it listed until the right buyer is found — there's no lock-in.
Yes, if you're on the North Shore or close to Riverhead. You're welcome to keep driving your car, or keep it stored at your place, while it's listed, and no storage fee applies. Otherwise we store it securely on-site for fast viewings, and classics go straight into the garage.
Yes — you can withdraw with 7 days' notice. An unsold fee may apply to cover costs already incurred, though in practice we've only ever had to apply it once.
Costs & Fees
$600 of value is included with every consignment package, guaranteed: a consignment-grade detail ($300 value) and a professional 25+ photo shoot ($300 value). There's no cap and no minimum sale price. If your car sells for over $30k, we also refund your $218.50 pre-purchase inspection, taking the total to over $800.
Our consignment packages start from $189 (Essential), $429 (Premium), and $749 (Signature). See the full breakdown on our Consignment page. The pre-purchase inspection and optional TradeMe listing fee are billed separately, at cost (Premium and Signature include a basic TradeMe listing). Commission is 9% on vehicles $10k-$30k, 7% on $30k-$60k, and 6% on $60k-$80k. Every vehicle over $80k is priced individually, between 3% and 5%. For vehicles under $10k, give us a call and we'll talk you through it. Storage is $20/week per vehicle while it's stored with us, and there's no storage fee if you're on the North Shore or close to Riverhead and keep the car with you.
Every vehicle over $80k is priced individually, with commission between 3% and 5%. The 6-9% rates only apply to sales under $80k. On a $100,000 sale that works out to $3,000-$5,000, and your exact rate is confirmed before you sign anything.
Only if we store the car for you, at $20/week per vehicle. If you're on the North Shore or close to Riverhead, you're welcome to keep driving your car, or keep it stored at your place, while it's listed, and no storage fee applies.
Yes — every registered vehicle we consign is inspected before it goes to market (race cars excluded). It's organised entirely by us, at our partner workshop Spargs Auto Tune, or via a mobile inspection. The inspector charges $190+GST and you cover that upfront; for vehicles that sell for over $30k, we refund it once the sale completes.

Consignment gets your vehicle professionally presented and sold at fair market value — it just takes a little longer. Wholesale is an instant sale: we shop your vehicle to our wholesale network and you simply accept or decline the best offer we bring back.
Yes — our detailing packages (Refresh, Full Detail, Signature, Showroom) are available as a standalone service, not just as part of a sale.
Yes, we can organise collection and drop-off if you can't get your car to us.
Yes — we deliver nationwide, and our Premium and Signature consignment packages extend marketing to our overseas buyer network too.
Yes — our Vehicle Sourcing service searches worldwide for genuine, high-value vehicles and handles compliance, WOF, registration, and shipping.

Yes — starting August 2026, consign 5 cars with us over your lifetime and we pay you $200 cash; reach 10 lifetime consignments and we send you away for a weekend, accommodation for 2 people, 2 nights, on us.
